Animangaki Winner Interview Part 3 (One True Pair Category)

Animangaki Winner Interview Part 3 (One True Pair Category) by Ezli Qamari

CosPLAY-Fun is lucky enough to catch Fujiwara Kazuko for an interview on winning the One True Pair Category at Animangaki 2010. Fujiwara Kazuko and Weon Haur did a mesmerizing performance of ‘Sandplay of the Singing Dragon’ as Kagamine Rin & Kagamine Len.

Ezli: Thanks for spending some time for this interview. All of us at CosPLAY-Fun would like to congratulated both of you as the Winner for OTP Category at Animangaki 2010.

Fujiwara Kazuko: Hi Ezli, thank you and we’re really honored to have this interview.

Ezli: Who came up with the idea for the skit and joining Animangaki OTP?

Fujiwara Kazuko: Once upon a time in the family of Vocaloids, stepmother Luka suggested to do a performance out of boredom, so the pitiful twins Len and Rin were sent out to join Animangaki OTP. Rin wrote out a story and start editing the audio and music, lots of changes and polishing are done, until it got approved by father Gakupo.

Ezli: How long do you practice for the skit?

Fujiwara Kazuko: The twins practice under the supervision of stepmother and father for three times; and the rest of the family join in for another three times.

Ezli: What are the challenges that you face while practicing the skit?

Fujiwara Kazuko: Poor Len is not used to dancing so he even tries to memorize the steps in his dreams. First rehearsal with the full family is in chaos since we need to squeeze in 6 people in a limited space.

Ezli: What worries you the most about doing this skit?

Fujiwara Kazuko: The sealing ribbon got tangled, and Rin almost fell down the stage along with the loud speaker…

Ezli: I did notice that, that ribbon didn’t give any corporation at all. What do you think of other contestant performance?

Fujiwara Kazuko: They were great! Everyone tried their best to bring out their characters!

Ezli: Who’s the closest challenger of the entire contestant?

Fujiwara Kazuko: Umineko team is awesome! We enjoyed their performance very much.

Ezli: Are you surprise when they announce the Winner for OTP?

Fujiwara Kazuko:Oh no! I have to treat everyone to dinner now…

Ezli: After you watched the recorded performance of Animangaki, do you wish to change anything to make it better or perfect?

Fujiwara Kazuko: Whatever has done is done, will make use the lessons learnt in future performances

Ezli: What are your plans for future competition and which competition are you joining?

Fujiwara Kazuko: No specific plans for now, will rest until the urge of performing rises again.

Ezli: Since Animangaki don’t have a winning speech, here’s your chance to have one…

Fujiwara Kazuko: Thanks Sun-U for holding this wonderful event, thanks to all the audience who watch our skit till the end, thanks to the whole Vocaloid Sandplay group who make this performance happen. Thank you *bows*

CosPLAY-Fun manage to interview Yuan Wong and Sky Fara for being the Runner Up for One True Pair at Animangaki 2010. Their Ga-Ga performance of Beatrice & Battler from ‘Umineko no Naku Koro’ was the talk of every cosplayer’s mouth after their fun, creative yet seductive skit on stage.

Ezli: All of us at CosPLAY-Fun would like to congratulated both of you for winning the Runner Up for OTP at Animangaki 2010.

Sky Fara: Thank you Ezli.

Yuan Wong: Thanks to CosPLAY-Fun for this interview.

Ezli: Who came up with the idea for the skit and joining Animangaki OTP?

Yuan Wong: Sky’s the one who suggested we enter the OTP. We did one skit at Anicom (week 2, Umineko as well) & we’re planning to do a continuation of it. As for the skit, i wrote the original one 1st, then Sky edited it to make it more ‘Battler & Beatrice’ like.

Ezli: How long does it take preparing and practice for the skit?

Sky Fara: Actually….i don’t want to go Animangaki but Yuan finally managed to convince me to go in the end and we started practicing seriously at midnight before Animangaki for maybe an hour. And then on Animangaki noon itself, we kidnapped all 4 of our ‘goats’ and taught them and practiced together for another hour. After that another half hour of practice of me and Yuan only in the girl’s changing room for the more *coughintimatecough* practice session. Oh yea, about the recordings… The manly Battler was voiced by Deidara (Kinzo) and Lady Beatrice was voiced by sexy Yuan (Battler). Ain’t that awesome?!

Ezli: What are the challenges that you face while practicing the skit?

Yuan Wong: For me, it’s the timing. We have to dance & act according to the pre-recorded skit. One faster/slower moves can ruin the whole thing.

Sky: I can’t dance to save my life! (sorry Yuan) Well i could probably do it if i practiced more so instead we need to brainstorm how to ‘fake it’ and brainstorm fast! So our practice session is also brainstorming session, and trying to coordinate timing with each other. There’s a lot of impromptu movements. I’m just glad i’m doing it with Yuan, coz it’s normal for us to naturally react to each others’ (random) movements.

Ezli: What worries you the most during doing the skit?

Yuan Wong: I was kinda worry tat our ‘goats’ could have problems keeping up since we only thought them on the spot! But everything turned out just fine. THANK YOU GOATS!

Sky: Audio trouble… Which did happen sadly. I can’t hear the audio when we’re on-stage on the first half of the skit, so the timing and acting was somewhat ruined. Another worry was me stepping on my skirt and stumble. Which happened a few times. Hahaha~ It’s not obvious, right? right?!

Ezli: Not at all, your move are flawless to even notice it! This leads to another question, did you injured your leg during the performance or after?

Sky: Ah… I didn’t injured my leg during the performance. (I would if i did wear my high heels… but i didn’t). I twisted my ankle after the prize-giving session when i fell off the stairs. That’s me… Beatrice-the-ever-Graceful.

Ezli: What do you think of other contestant performance?

Yuan Wong: Very awesome s**t! Especially the vocaloid & the rozen maiden team. They pawn the stage!

Sky: I didn’t get to see Xajin’s performance sadly. Cappy-Reno’s Macross performance was heartwarming. Cappy sang LIVE, thumbs-up to her!!! And i was there during their LOL-worthy recording session. Narukids-Silvennia’s Rosen Maiden is very emo-drama so i can see they put much effort in acting. And i can hear Ikki-Hani’s effort in the voicing, you go gurlz! Team effort ftw! The Vocaloid team, i truly respect their teamwork. Epic drama skit!

Ezli: Who’s the closest challenger of the entire competition?

Yuan Wong: All of them! It’s really good to see that Malaysia’s cosplayers improved so much!

Sky: Can i say… None, because i wasn’t in the challenging mood?! Did it for fun anyway. I did feel i got pawn-ed so badly by Len and Rin’s acting ability. Hahaha, i shall need to improve more!

Ezli: Are you surprise when they announce as the Runner Up for OTP?

Sky: Yes! Very much! Very very terharu. Thank you very much judges!!!

Yuan Wong: We were very surprised! We thought that we’re totally out of the league after we saw the Vocaloids’ skit!

Ezli: After you watched the recorded performance of Animangaki, do you wish to change anything to make it better or perfect?

Yuan Wong: Hmm… To be honest, i wished that we could hear our pre-recorded dialogue better when we are on the stage. We noticed that we have mouthed our dialogues wrongly.

Sky: I wish there was more time for me to whip the lol-goats to do my bidding correctly. You phail goatz kept following Battler when you’re MY goats…shame on you lamb-chops! (i’m just kidding… you know we love you Wong Shifu, Wen, Rayray, Taka… thank you very much!)

Ezli: What are your plans for future skit and which competition are you joining?

Sky: Unfortunately i can’t attend CF this year. But if i manage to come, i’ll be the Shino (wedding dress) to Haseo (Xth form).

Yuan Wong: Our next plan will be as Xerxes Break & Lady Sharon from Pandora Hearts. We’ll probably debut them around next year.
