World Cyber Games Malaysia 2011
Taking place at the new PIKOM ICT Mall CapSquare, this year’s World Cyber Games (WCG) Malaysia 2011 features nine games which 350 gamers are competing in five official games with one common goal: to clinch the national championship title. Winner of the four games- ‘StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty‘, ‘Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne‘, ‘FIFA 11’ and ‘League Of Legends’ will represent Malaysia at the WCG grand final considered as the world’s largest e-sport Olympics, in Busan, Korea from December 8-11. The 5th official game is ‘Counter Strike 1.6’
“WCG Malaysia offers an excellent platform for gamers throughout the country to come together to compete, enjoy and respect the e-game environment. We have many good gamers and it is important that we nurture their skills and allow them the chance to compete on the global stage alongside other world-class players,” said Encik Shaifubahrim Bin Mohd Saleh, President of the Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry Malaysia (PIKOM) at the opening of WCG Malaysia 2011 today.
Besides of the five official games, another 250 gamers will be demonstrating their skills in four promotional titles- ‘Super Dancer Online-Xtreme’, ‘Mission Against Terror’, ’Super Street Fighter 4’ and ’Tekken 6’. ‘Super Street Fighter 4’ and ’Tekken 6’ will be held on October 8 and 9 at the TGV Cinema Hall 3 of CapSquare.
Winners of the five official and four promotional games will take away cash prizes worth more than RM150,000. Except for ‘Counter Strike 1.6’ and ‘League Of Legends’ which requires a team of five players each, the remaining three official games are individual events. The finals of the five official games will take place on Sunday, October 9 on the stage located at the ground floor of the PIKOM ICT Mall.
One of the highlights of WCG 2011 on October 9 is The PIKOM Charity Run 2011 as PIKOM celebrates its 25th anniversary. The Charity Run is supported by the Federal Territory Amateur Athletics Association (FTAAA) and Menara Kuala Lumpur, and funds collected will be donated to the National Cancer Society Malaysia.
