Hey everyone its The Captain here,
This term ‘March Madness’ is typically used in college basketball in America. It signifies the last few crucial games of the season. I’m using it now because… from a very quiet ACG+M start of the year… it’s now March… & its loaded with events in the Klang Valley & Penang 🙂 Anyways here is a gist of what’s taking place.
In particularly, I would like to draw the attention to the LIGHT UP NIPPON: Malaysia Remembers event. This should be a cause close to our heart since those of you who are actually reading this blog was.. is… or still is a big fan of J-Culture. We do so many things based on our ‘wants’, ‘likes’ & ‘$$ gain’ … that sometimes we need to do something for a cause that is bigger than ourselves. An act of Charity perhaps… or to have charity in our hearts.
A current day English translation of the Greek word ‘AGAPE’ is love. The Old English translation of the same Greek word ‘AGAPE’ was Charity. Are they wrong? Are they confused? How is ‘love’ different from ‘charity’? Well the easiest ‘layman’ difference would be that ‘Charity’ is a more tangible definition even by today’s standards… where the word ‘love’ has lost much of it’s meaning. ‘Charity’ has a direct implication of ‘doing / giving something to another for the benefit of another’… which is closer to the meaning of ‘AGAPE’, then say ‘love’. These days ‘love’ has many meanings from rating U (Tontonan Umum) to 18SX (Unsur Unsur Sex) to R-rated Hollywood movies. So I think you get the picture.
“LIGHT UP NIPPON: Malaysia Remembers” is an event by the Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur, co-organized with Cosplay-FUN and Publika to commemorate the 1st anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake, which hit Tohoku area on 11th March last year.
The original “LIGHT UP NIPPON” project was carried out on 11th August, 5 months after the disaster, by setting off fireworks at disaster-struck areas. Now the LIGHT UP NIPPON organizer and The Japan Foundation are trying to screen the documentary and launch a firework at 14:46(Japan time-13:46Malaysian time) on 11th March, the exact time the earthquake occurred, at as many cities in the world as possible.
This event is not just to mourn the lost & remember the tragedy but also to support & encourage the people of Japan in their restoration efforts, just like the biggest fireworks event in Tokyo originally started as a memorial to the victims of a major famine back in 1733.
This event will be filmed and posted on the official website of “LIGHT UP NIPPON.”
