Miku Expo in Malaysia 2017 – Press Launch

A month ago, Comic Fiesta dropped the Earthbound Papas bomb on us and the fans went nuts. Then a MikuPa page was made for Miku Expo in Malaysia 2017… on the same date of 16 December 2017 with no additional information till this date – the date of the press launch!!

It was a busy weekend & week but I managed to get my Magical Mirai Yokohama 2013 ready… and I am all set! So excited!

I already had a few questions on my mind and upon arriving at TGV 1 Utama… a few were already answered. The Q & A session with the media was good as fellow Geek writers The Hyped Geek, started of with the mother of all questions – WHY WAS THIS DATE CHOSEN FOR MIKUEXPOMY? One of the most spicy Q&A sessions at a press conference I have ever attended 😀 On another note… come one the organisers are pros & corporate giants… the questions we’rent spicy enough to say it was spicy!! haha

Anyhow, here are the sights and info gathered, followed by the official press release!

On stage was the 3 most important people of the day! Mr. Kimitaka Nishio, CEO Office Manager of Crypton Future Media, Mr. Henry Tan COO of Astro Holdings Berhad and Mr. Ng Yubin, from the eGG Network, in which I believe with be a driving & promoting force for the pre-concert activities and promotions.

So Nishio-san started off by introducing Hatsune Miku everyone.

Followed by Mr. Henry Tan & Mr. Ng.

Next the opening acts were unveiled, which were chosen by the folks at Astro. They are YouTube Sensation Ms. Chaleeda Gilbert featuring Thai Rapper Dandee and the hottest star in Malaysia Mr. Zizan Razak aka. Abang Long Fadil!

Chaleeda Gilbert, of Thai and British descent, the first international act to be signed to Rocketfuel Entertainment, Malaysia’s #1 Indie Music label. Zizan is no stranger to the average Malaysian. Accomplished comedian, actor, singer, rapper, host, TV personality and a favourite in the hearts of Malaysians.

He will be singing a duet with Miku… for the concert and we’re speculating it’s gonna be a malay song or maybe it would be Zizan’s own single “Chentaku” produced with SonaOne… that will feature Miku!! Who knows at this point 😀 haha

Tickets are priced as follows. The tickets go on sale Sunday, 8 October 2017 at 10am on http://www.myticket.asia

Details on what other pre-concert activities will be announce as time progresses.

I wanted to end with this joke! For all the friends & fans out there who call Miku their WAIFU, take a good look at Nishio-san, because he could be the closest you get to a LEGIT ‘uncle’ in this sense xD haha I had a great time.

Thanks to Astro and Crypton Future Media for having us and for making Miku’s concert in Malaysia a reality! – The Captain –

10 Fun Facts about Hatsune Miku

  1. Hatsune Miku was released on 31 August 2007 and her voice was sampled from Japanese voice actress, Saki Fujita.
  2. Miku’s name comes from putting together the words: First(Hatsu), Sound(Ne), and Future (Miku).
  3. Hatsune Miku isn’t a digital persona for a real singer. She’s actually a synthesised character, called a Vocaloid. Not only is her image on stage generated by computer, but her singing voice is totally synthesised, too.
  4. As her voice can be synthesised, Hatsune Miku sings in multiple languages and has hundreds of thousands of songs available to date!
  5. None of the songs that Hatsune Miku sings and performs actually come straight from Crypton Future Media. Instead, creating her songs is a widespread fan effort, with devotees around the world using her program to write and orchestrate songs for her.
  6. Miku’s outfit design is partly based on a very popular synthesiser keyboard. The colours, and some of the motifs on her clothes are inspired by that instrument.
  7. For a “vocaloid-opera” performance called “The End”, famous Louis Vuitton designer, Marc Jacobs has created a dress specifically for Hatsune Miku.
  8. Hatsune Miku has worked with the biggest acts in the world, from opening for Lady Gaga, to appearing in Pharrell’s music video and singing alongside Japanese artists like Bump of Chicken and Namie Amuro.
  9. Hatsune Miku made television history when she was the very first virtual singer to appear on a major U.S. late night talk show, The Late Show with David Letterman on Oct. 7, 2014, as the musical guest.
  10. There are other characters similar to Hatsune Miku from Crypton Future Media such as Megurine Luka, Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len, KAITO and MEIKO. However, Hatsune Miku remains the most popular in the market and became the world’s first virtual idol.

Game Start Asia 2017 – Preview

3 Reasons I am Grateful:

  1. I am so grateful that these regional events are held just across the causeway in Singapore which conveniently accessible with many transport options, included the most cost effective one – Express Coach.
  2. These events are organised by corporate professionals, event organisers and industry leaders in a country that is know to be the choice regional hub for many corporate giants! That’s some pretty high standards to hold up for organiser, venue provider and promoter.
  3. These events go to greater lengths to accommodate the media. The favour and facilities provided are so apparent that I feel the contrast is almost obscene.

And this is only my experience with Malaysia & Singapore events! Who knows what other convention wisdom is out there in countries like Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Australia, Canada, America… and even San Diego etc. 😀

Here’s the official press release for whats coming up! All the good stuff!

STGCC 2017 – Preview

By The Captain for Pop Culture Fun – Malaysia 2017!
Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention RETURNS this weekend at the world famous Marina Bay Sands. This years event is an extremely special one as it marks the 10th Anniversary of the brand. Times really flies and this event has really morphed & transformed in these past 10 years.

I can remember so clearly as I made plans with Outpost Productions Commander, Richard Chua, to travel to Singapore to check out this debut event back in 2008! Half way planning then all plans are messed up because guess what else is debuting in Singapore…. the first ever F1 Singapore Grand Prix!! And it’s a night race too!! Roads were blocked, bus routes were changed, accommodation was in shock… our trip nearly didn’t take place haha.

Anyways, STGCC has come a long way since then. But the biggest change… or the morphing + transforming part came when Reed Exhibitions bought over the brand. Now things really got interesting as the worldwide network of Reeds strong arm is now available to what was already known to be the regional hub of South East Asia.

I only made my first (Reed Pop Era) STGCC visit in 2014 and it was great!! But seriously… I really wanted to make for STGCC 2013 because of all the MARVELous stuff brought by Hot Toys!! THAT 1:1 display IRON MAN HALL OF ARMOUR!! Oh man… the photos look mesmerizing. Well, better 2014 than never!! 2014 was Hot Toys year to debut their brand new Star Wars stuff, so my theme expectation had to change! Then I came back the following year in 2015 and had another great encounter with Western Pop Culture!! I couldn’t make it in 2016 so I am definitely doing my best to head over this year for the it’s 10th outing!! And heading to STGCC 2017 with the Outpost Productions Commander – R.Chua is the perfect way to celebrate this trip!!

My TOP 5 Reason To Go STGCC in Reed Pop Era:
1) Meeting Marvel & DC artists: Oliver Coipel, David Mack, Cameron Steward, Adi Granov, Humberto Ramos, Harvey Talibao, Jim Cheung, Adam Hughes, C.B. Cebulski, Philip Tan etc.
2) Group Panel talks with the guests
3) Browsing Western Comics, memorabilia and collectibles.
4) Catching up with Singapore friends & Malaysian friends in Singapore
5) Online Media folks are treated so well in contrast to events in Malaysia.

My TOP 5 Reasons to go STGCC 2017
1) It’s the 10th Anniversary man!! It’s a big deal for any event!!
2) Western Comic Guests: Legendary Level Artist Mr. Art Adams, Frank Cho, David Mack, Adi Granov, James C. Mulligan… etc
3) Star Wars: Experience the Force Singapore – a whole buzz of activities & events on Orchard Road.
4) Life size THIS –

5) And Life Size THIS –

And the mysterious Kylo Ren – TIE Silencer, yet to be unveiled!! Something tells me it’s gonna me life size too! 1:1 scale!!

The Silencer CR: Lucasfilm

Along with a whole lot of other unseen merchandise & collectibles that have the power to suck your money away!! Haha

PlayStation Experience 2017 – South East Asia PREVIEW

by The Captain for the new Chapter – Pop Culture FUN – Malaysia.

All gamer folks are buzzing the news on cyber space since the mega announcement by leading video game platform Sony Computer Entertainment Asia! Last year we had 4 PlayStation 4 game title launches & it was such a roar. Gamers got off their couch, came to the shopping mall venues, played demos, met up with friends, picked up freebies all the way till past midnight…. it was great! Street Fighter V, Uncharted 4, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Final Fantasy XV. These midnight game launch events were certainly not “Game Start Asia” for us here in Malaysia but it was reason enough for gamers to be excited about.

So what is this PlayStation Experience? – Well basically the PlayStation Experience or PSX for short is an event that showcases the latest / newest / upcoming games for the PlayStation platforms…. PS4, PS VR, PS Vita etc. It started out in 2014 & is a yearly event held in December in America. It debuted in Las Vegas in the first year & has moved to California since. This year, Malaysia is so privileged (if not extremely fortunate), to be the selected country / city for the PSX summer. To have this event in my own country is already a privilege but to be the host for the entire South East Asia region, is yet another honour too.

So, the PSX SEA 2017, which I dub to be PSX Summer  haha or PSX Asian Summer haha (syiok sendiri because I am so happy), will feature most of the fresh stuff unveiled at the recent E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) 2017. E3 is an industry-only event, which means if you’re not part of the video game industry in some way, you don’t get to go 😦 But Hey! We got PSX SEA 2017 & it’s in Kuala Lumpur so rejoice! Again I say rejoice!

Here’s some highlights which were already announced. For more info & up to date news, you should go straight to the official FB event page & official FB page.

It’s really nice to see western pop culture stuff popping up at an event… and it’s most refreshing to see a western pop culture event all by itself!! Some may say that it is small… but hey! We’ve got to start some where!! High traffic venues are not just throwing themselves at organisers… nor is free $$$,$$$ falling from the sky xD haha Kudos to ShiokToys Collectibles & team with Prime 1 Studios, for continuing to be active to promote the passion for pop culture heroes!

Gong Xi Fa Chai Luncheon with Playstation

16486905_1403189916392356_5229362412697127898_o_resizeSo fortunate to be invited by PlayStation Asia to a special CNY makan makan. PlayStation Asia Regional Head of Product Management, Mr. Arata Naito, was present to answer any questions we had about 2017. It wouldn’t be just your average PlayStation event if there were no announcements or advance demos. Got a chance to try out 3 games there too.

16463554_1403190309725650_899580824618869940_o_resizeFirst is the much anticipated Horizon Zero Dawn huhu which is an open world action RPG. All the hype is high as Horizon Zero Dawn won Best Original Game at the Game Critics Game Critics Awards 2015 & 2016. The country side environment looks like a page out of middle-earth! It’s also hard to not think that when the main character, heroine Aloy, draws a bow as ranged weapon. 3rd-person player games with Bows are just so intriguing to me!! This action RPG is a PlayStation exclusive & will be released 28 Feb 2017. The game is developed by Guerrilla Games who is best know for their Killzone game series. 16664986_1403189963059018_3463836743865071526_o_resize

Second was Nioh, which was a dark, samurai action RPG set in the 1600s Sengoku period fighting lotsa ‘yokai’ / supernatural foes in 3rd person fashon. This game is developed by Team Ninja & published by Koei Tecmo… some legendary gaming names there! Team Ninja is famous for the sexy fighting game Dead or Alive & … the Ninja Gaiden series. When Koei + 3rd person is mentioned I can’t help but think Dynasty Warriors / Samurai Warriors series. Yes it did turn out that way but with more gorgeous graphics, more skilled gameplay and tough ass baddies to beat. “Tough”? It’s “Ninja Gaiden + Tecmo” tough to beat… if u get my drift. 16463658_1403189896392358_1996014426530068550_o_resize

Third was the Singapore developed Stifled for the VR. This thriller brought a new dimension to suspense & fear by only giving you echolocation to navigate your way in the dark surroundings of this VR environment. That’s some pretty cool inovation & story telling there. Feels so much like Daredevil’s radar sense… sonar abilities… just minus that Ninja training by Stick, to kickass! haha Mr. Justin Ng from Gattai Games was present all the way from Singapore to answer anything we had to ask about the production of the game as well as developing a game for the VR. 16463057_1403190079725673_7931893669677757713_o

*This was held in Hilton PJ, parking rate was horrific RM7 per hour – max flat rate RM30. Unless u went there for a dinner function, you’d be paying RM7 per hour or flat RM30. This is the absolute MOST amount I’ve had to pay for any event coverage. And I thought Mandarin Oriental KL flat rate of RM13 was expensive!! -__-
