To be honest I was quite sure this concert was going to be SOLD OUT! The only question was how soon! haha And more concerned if the local fans here in the very fortunate host country… did they managed to get some tickets for themselves
What I actually expected this morning was to wake up & login in to the http://www.myticket.asia and read that the site had crashed from the amount of people trying to get in xD haha a big “ERROR 521 – Server Down” sign haha But then again it was already announced there were only 6,500 tickets available…. but then again it’s Miku… people from Europe might even be trying to get some tickets!!
Exact details are not yet known…. sometimes this doesn’t mean that the all tickets are sold out, X amount of physical tickets are still available for a later date…. block booking amount of tickets for corporate folks, or even X amount allocated for upcoming contests for the sponsors + partners!
Anyhow there will be many fans disappointed that they couldn’t get tickets… but I congratulate the organisers Astro for a job well done. Why? Well because this is the first time in a very long time that a Japanese artiste concert has been professionally organised & SOLD OUT!!
So at the end of the day, it’s a WIN for MALAYSIA… something very scarce these days. It’s a win for MALAYSIA fans as probably more Japanese concerts will be hosted here in our own country! We have a pretty big land for an Asian country and our currency is weak compared to the giants of Asia. So to all the organisers, artiste, celebrities… come and host your event here!! Haha

A month ago, Comic Fiesta dropped the Earthbound Papas bomb on us and the fans went nuts. Then a MikuPa page was made for Miku Expo in Malaysia 2017… on the same date of 16 December 2017 with no additional information till this date – the date of the press launch!!
It was a busy weekend & week but I managed to get my Magical Mirai Yokohama 2013 ready… and I am all set! So excited!
I already had a few questions on my mind and upon arriving at TGV 1 Utama… a few were already answered. The Q & A session with the media was good as fellow Geek writers The Hyped Geek, started of with the mother of all questions – WHY WAS THIS DATE CHOSEN FOR MIKUEXPOMY? One of the most spicy Q&A sessions at a press conference I have ever attended 😀 On another note… come one the organisers are pros & corporate giants… the questions we’rent spicy enough to say it was spicy!! haha
Anyhow, here are the sights and info gathered, followed by the official press release!
On stage was the 3 most important people of the day! Mr. Kimitaka Nishio, CEO Office Manager of Crypton Future Media, Mr. Henry Tan COO of Astro Holdings Berhad and Mr. Ng Yubin, from the eGG Network, in which I believe with be a driving & promoting force for the pre-concert activities and promotions.
So Nishio-san started off by introducing Hatsune Miku everyone.
Followed by Mr. Henry Tan & Mr. Ng.
Next the opening acts were unveiled, which were chosen by the folks at Astro. They are YouTube Sensation Ms. Chaleeda Gilbert featuring Thai Rapper Dandee and the hottest star in Malaysia Mr. Zizan Razak aka. Abang Long Fadil!
Chaleeda Gilbert, of Thai and British descent, the first international act to be signed to Rocketfuel Entertainment, Malaysia’s #1 Indie Music label. Zizan is no stranger to the average Malaysian. Accomplished comedian, actor, singer, rapper, host, TV personality and a favourite in the hearts of Malaysians.
He will be singing a duet with Miku… for the concert and we’re speculating it’s gonna be a malay song or maybe it would be Zizan’s own single “Chentaku” produced with SonaOne… that will feature Miku!! Who knows at this point 😀 haha
Tickets are priced as follows. The tickets go on sale Sunday, 8 October 2017 at 10am on http://www.myticket.asia
Details on what other pre-concert activities will be announce as time progresses.
Check out our full photo album on Facebook here!

I wanted to end with this joke! For all the friends & fans out there who call Miku their WAIFU, take a good look at Nishio-san, because he could be the closest you get to a LEGIT ‘uncle’ in this sense xD haha I had a great time.
Thanks to Astro and Crypton Future Media for having us and for making Miku’s concert in Malaysia a reality! – The Captain –

10 Fun Facts about Hatsune Miku
- Hatsune Miku was released on 31 August 2007 and her voice was sampled from Japanese voice actress, Saki Fujita.
- Miku’s name comes from putting together the words: First(Hatsu), Sound(Ne), and Future (Miku).
- Hatsune Miku isn’t a digital persona for a real singer. She’s actually a synthesised character, called a Vocaloid. Not only is her image on stage generated by computer, but her singing voice is totally synthesised, too.
- As her voice can be synthesised, Hatsune Miku sings in multiple languages and has hundreds of thousands of songs available to date!
- None of the songs that Hatsune Miku sings and performs actually come straight from Crypton Future Media. Instead, creating her songs is a widespread fan effort, with devotees around the world using her program to write and orchestrate songs for her.
- Miku’s outfit design is partly based on a very popular synthesiser keyboard. The colours, and some of the motifs on her clothes are inspired by that instrument.
- For a “vocaloid-opera” performance called “The End”, famous Louis Vuitton designer, Marc Jacobs has created a dress specifically for Hatsune Miku.
- Hatsune Miku has worked with the biggest acts in the world, from opening for Lady Gaga, to appearing in Pharrell’s music video and singing alongside Japanese artists like Bump of Chicken and Namie Amuro.
- Hatsune Miku made television history when she was the very first virtual singer to appear on a major U.S. late night talk show, The Late Show with David Letterman on Oct. 7, 2014, as the musical guest.
- There are other characters similar to Hatsune Miku from Crypton Future Media such as Megurine Luka, Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len, KAITO and MEIKO. However, Hatsune Miku remains the most popular in the market and became the world’s first virtual idol.

Here the video my walk through the Berjaya Times Square Outlet!
Hey everybody, I was grateful to be given the opportunity to unbox the official Kamen Rider Wizard’s DX Wizard Driver and the DX Sword Gun.
Just some quick info, this is the 23 rendition of Kamen Rider, I think. Wizard comes in after Fourze ends. As the name suggests, Kamen Rider Wizard uses magic to summon his powers. It may look like the Dr. Strange movie took a page out of this series but fact is that the magical world of Dr. Strange started way back in 1963 and was presented to us as such through the creative vision of Mr. Steve Ditko and Mr. Stan Lee.
Returning to the topic, Kamen Rider Wizard uses special power rings to engage the element form he wants – Flame (red), Water (blue), Land (yellow), Hurricane (green). These same rings also engage the munitions of choice for his Sword Gun. The next set of rings are those of which he will use for a special move to go along with that element.
For example: if he has chosen to be the Hurricane (green) element form, then chooses to use the Kick Strike ring move – he will then perform a Hurricane Kick Strike = which looks like a down striking kick but he also spins like a drill while descending! What’s Kamen Rider without a power flying kick move! Haha
For the full photo album of the DX Wizard Driver set & the DX Wizard Sword Gun, click here.
Here are the video of the unboxing. Hope you like them.
The Kamen Rider Wizard Driver aka. DX Wizard Driver set retails for RM499.90
Comes with 3 rings – Flame (red), Water (blue) and Kick Strike!
The Kamen Rider Wizard Sword Gun aka. DX Wizard SwordGun set retails for RM299.90
Comes with 2 rings – Land (yellow), Hurricane (green).
Do let us know what you think of it. And what you all would want to see more off. Thanks for reading.

3 Reasons I am Grateful:
- I am so grateful that these regional events are held just across the causeway in Singapore which conveniently accessible with many transport options, included the most cost effective one – Express Coach.
- These events are organised by corporate professionals, event organisers and industry leaders in a country that is know to be the choice regional hub for many corporate giants! That’s some pretty high standards to hold up for organiser, venue provider and promoter.
- These events go to greater lengths to accommodate the media. The favour and facilities provided are so apparent that I feel the contrast is almost obscene.
And this is only my experience with Malaysia & Singapore events! Who knows what other convention wisdom is out there in countries like Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Australia, Canada, America… and even San Diego etc. 😀
Here’s the official press release for whats coming up! All the good stuff!

By The Captain for Pop Culture Fun – Malaysia 2017!
Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention RETURNS this weekend at the world famous Marina Bay Sands. This years event is an extremely special one as it marks the 10th Anniversary of the brand. Times really flies and this event has really morphed & transformed in these past 10 years.
I can remember so clearly as I made plans with Outpost Productions Commander, Richard Chua, to travel to Singapore to check out this debut event back in 2008! Half way planning then all plans are messed up because guess what else is debuting in Singapore…. the first ever F1 Singapore Grand Prix!! And it’s a night race too!! Roads were blocked, bus routes were changed, accommodation was in shock… our trip nearly didn’t take place haha.
Anyways, STGCC has come a long way since then. But the biggest change… or the morphing + transforming part came when Reed Exhibitions bought over the brand. Now things really got interesting as the worldwide network of Reeds strong arm is now available to what was already known to be the regional hub of South East Asia.
I only made my first (Reed Pop Era) STGCC visit in 2014 and it was great!! But seriously… I really wanted to make for STGCC 2013 because of all the MARVELous stuff brought by Hot Toys!! THAT 1:1 display IRON MAN HALL OF ARMOUR!! Oh man… the photos look mesmerizing. Well, better 2014 than never!! 2014 was Hot Toys year to debut their brand new Star Wars stuff, so my theme expectation had to change! Then I came back the following year in 2015 and had another great encounter with Western Pop Culture!! I couldn’t make it in 2016 so I am definitely doing my best to head over this year for the it’s 10th outing!! And heading to STGCC 2017 with the Outpost Productions Commander – R.Chua is the perfect way to celebrate this trip!!

It was really convenient to follow the news of this event as my wife and I often tune in to HISTORY (Channel) & Lifetime. If we’re not watching Pickers, Storage Wars, Counting Cars… it would be Master Chef Australia. Apart from that HISTORY has got documentaries or miniseries that would catch my fancy: SIX, The War Fighters, Superheroes Decoded just to name a few.
So last year we caught the teaser… HISTORY Con… coming to you! And my wife and I were excited till later they announced it was Manila! Ok, excitement neutralized. Of course, it was nice to see highlights… then again it is nice to see San Diego Comic-Con Hall H highlights too minus the real presence haha. Anyhow, a year later… oh the trailer is back… showing all the Manila highlights… how nice to see it again! And then the it was announced… coming to you MALAYSIA!! Wow, now that had an impact for sure!! With imaginations running wild, the sudden urge to drop everything and get online to find leads on where, when, who will be coming. HISTORY Con just became legit for Malaysia fans!
As time went on, the more official information was released but the event actual was still hard to imagine as the event trailers kept showing footage from HISTORY Con Philippines 2016. With this I was determined to go early on event day Friday so that the costuming folks would have a better idea on what to expect. A big thank you to A+E Networks for granting us access for the opening ceremony.
If you were thinking, what does cosplay have to do with history or HISTORY Channel? I would answer… are you kidding me? Why not? haha What directly came to mind when I saw the event announcement was our local community folks – W.A.R. which stands for We Are Reenactors a subdivision of Malaysia Renactors. These guys whom I’ve known for a decade now… are real enthusiast on World War 1 / World War 2 military uniforms and collectors of authentic gear from that era. It’s the perfect pairing!
The other group I couldn’t get out my head was the Assassin’s Creed (video game) costuming fans. What a great way to get ‘INTO’ history then to play any chapter of this ground-breaking video game series. It was surreal for me, roaming the streets of Jerusalem, Damascus and Acre… in all its historical authenticity. The game sequels then continue to map pivotal moments in world history (Renaissance, Colonial Era, French Revolution, Imperial China, Victorian era, Sikh Empire, October Revolution, Ptolemaic Egypt) and lets us get an immersive experience of each era with accurate visual depiction, proportionate scaling and great voice acting through! With the release of the live action movie last year, costuming fans came out with full force with the fandom reaching its most celebrated moment!
So, this was just 2 of the groups that quickly came to mind. What else is out there? Samurai era, Ninja’s, a 17th Century Pirates vs East India Trading Company? Roman Gladiator? The 300 Spartans anyone?? All this historical excitement is unlocked with this event genre!! huhu Don’t even get me started with movie specific titles… or super heroes or anime or comics or games!! Gotham by Gaslight, Captain America: The First Avenger, Kuroshitsuji, Hakuoki, Dynasty Warriors… ahem! So exciting!

Friday, 4 August 2017: It was certainly a grand affair for a first-time event. MAEPS is very known for being one of the large (if not largest) pillar-less convention halls in the Klang Valley. My imagination was wild at what they could possibly fill the hall with. With both indoor & outdoor content…. And not to forget sporting too… it was going to be massive.
So Friday was the day of the launch & opening of this event. Even before all the guest arrived… there were bus loads of students lining up & marching in. I could feel that this ‘rombongan’ was going to be a real treat for them. Primary & Secondary… boys & girls were carefully arranged to get full view of the stage… and of course after the launch… FIRST full access to the event huhu… so much to see, play and most of all… so much to learn!! I just thought that this was a great idea to include the kids!! Well done organisers!!
The vintage cars display, greeted everyone as we entered and the main stage area was directly in the middle of the hall. We had a lot of our local historical organisations involved so it was very educational for both locals & foreigners. This area was called the ‘Heritage’ area. One of four area in this big hall. The others were ‘Motoring’, ‘Lifetime’ and ‘His Cave’ haha Geeks and pop culture fans will know what the phrase “MAN CAVE” means haha.
In this ‘Heritage’ area we had The Historical Society OF Kuala Lumpur, Jabatan Muzium Negara, Muzium Tentera Darat, Jabatan Bomba Malaysia, Forged in Fire booth Purba displaying antique Keris from different eras etc. My favourite was the Muzium Negara mini palaeontology area for kids… and adults. It was a chance at kids… and adults to try how it feels like to be a dinosaur (bone) hunter hehe Dr. Ross Geller (Friends)!
My favourite at the ‘His Cave’ area was the Vikings area. They had some fan made Lego Viking ships, a giant cut away board to take pics with. The jewel of the displays were the actual costumes worn by Ragnar Lothbrok and Lagertha in the HISTORY series Vikings.
The Photo-faceoff show was such an interesting idea in concept… but how to run it, now that would have been a challenge. So out of much curiosity & had to watch it to find out how it would be done. After binge watching here & there I convinced that the highlight of the show is actually Mr. Justin Mott!! Haha As a fellow coach & teacher, I think you make a great teacher… mentor Mr. Justin! His endless enthusiasm, antics & energy is contagious if you buy into what he is trying to say. It was fun to see him live in person… and it’s true! He is so animated that I think he is fun subject to shoot! Fortunate for those of you who managed to get into his photography work shop!!
The ‘Motoring’ area had a lot of… you guessed it – motor cars & motor bikes haha! The charm however was of the vintage, rare, restored and specially customized. This is where you would find ‘Horny’ Mike Henry from Counting Cars and Jaime Dempsey from Ride N Seek.
What would the final ‘Lifetime’ area have to top all of this off? Well they had this!!! The set likeness is uncanny. And this was recently built might you! I think the contractors did a great job. Now the only part I missed was to actually be present here & have Matt Preston give a live cooking demo together with my wife! It would have been the equivalent of the both of us getting off the couch & jumping right into the TV screen on a weekday night! That would really make our day!!
These were the four main areas in the hall but there were still more to experience. There was an actual badminton court set up where we could play against the former Malaysia greats like Cheah Soon Kit. This was the Ministry of Youth & Sports zone.
Outside we had the opportunity to not only watch our Malaysian rally car legend in action but we could get into his 2006 Subaru WRX Impreza! This is Mr. Karamjit Singh! His car & his skills are LEGIT!
Also, outside was the chance to catch Ms. Jaime Dempsey in her element… on a bike… with a helmet on… cruising!
All in, I think it was a great event… and even more impressive as it was a debut event. I may be biased because my wife & I really enjoy watching HISTORY and Lifetime but from my experience in the local entertainment industry and with pop culture conventions, I still think it was a very good event. There was something for everyone and for every age. Parents could bring their kids and everyone would have enjoyed at least something at HISTORY Con. And most of all, everyone would have learnt something new.
Just 3 weeks back, we had three Hollywood stars grace our nation for a red-carpet Hollywood movie premiere. For as long I can remember, nothing like this has happened before for our country. Now HISTORY Con brings all these TV stars to Malaysia. Wow! So right now there is nothing but awe and gratitude… with a pitch of hopeful-excitement looking to next year.
A big thank you to A+E Networks Asia for having this in Malaysia. And to sponsors, production crew, coordinators and the 21,000 visitors who came to support this event. Looking forward to HISTORY Con 2018!
