Events List 2019

Formerly know as Little Harajuku, Cos Dreamers Japan is the new name & direction which they are set to pursue. Check it out / Follow them of FACEBOOK https://www.facebook.com/cosdreamersjapan/

Hey everybody, it’s The Captain here. It was a great 2018. Aside from the historical May 9th 2018…. (for the nations benefit)  we had some new events join the calendar… some were amazing, (TAGCC _ Toys Anime Games Comic Con, Asia Comic Con) and some were promising (Crtl-Alt Gaming, DOTA 2 – KL Major) . Then at the eleventh hour…. December, two additional events unveiled themselves, The Star media groups Star Supa Comic event… that takes place a week after Comic Fiesta… and then MyTown the shopping mall tries to go big again to end the year by merging a Japan Expo Asia event with their New Year celebration. Good luck to them both.

2018 also saw it’s biggest J-ROCK star yet to come to Malaysian shores…  the man, the myth, the mystery…. The voice behind bands L’Arc En Ciel and Vamps -HYDE! His concert at the Wisma MCA hall was impressively decorated to his specification of this Acoustic Concert tour. It was beautiful! What was also cool was that Malaysia was his only stop in Southeast Asia!!

However, year end 2018 came with much grief too. Every comic fans worst fears came to reality with the passing of the Legendary Comic Book ICON Mr. Stan Lee on 12 Nov 2018. At the age of 95, every passing day and month was a bonus for us and the fans. We all knew this day would come… and it has arrived. For those of us who never got the chance to meet him at these comic cons… now we will never that chance… ☹ EVER. It was very sad news.

Anyways, here that famous EVENTS LIST 2019 by The Captain for Cosplay-Fun Malaysia and Pop Culture Fun – Malaysia.

Don’t forget to check out the POP Watch Events List 2019 here to what geek dates to remember or take note off!

We wish you all a very prosperous & blessed 2018 to you all!!

Lots of Geek Love!

Star Supa Comic 2018 – Announcement

This is the title image from the Facebook page.

Boom! This is the current hot topic….. the buzz around town among the Anime community fans now!! Meme & 9Gag worthy images are also on the rise haha

So far nothing positive, the most I’ve seen was something neutral xD haha

Comments of “Wah! Wanna challenge CF?”, “Whachu know about Otakus?”. Too much corporate marketing lingo on the front page maybe. Who knows… the folks have not reached out to us yet, no proper media launch yet… no official launch either but it’s rolling forward.

supa re1

The screen shot of their website which is causing all this roar. LINK: https://sites.thestar.com.my/supacomic/

Since I am the one here suggesting that the possible negative or neutral response to the advert below (then again its common for most people response negative to new things or change) could be due to ‘corporate marketing lingo’, i should elaborate a bit more. Here is the text :

“BEHOLD! THE YEAR’S MOST EXCITING NEW ANIME, COSPLAY, E-GAMES & TOYS EXTRAVAGANZA IS AT HAND! A million sights & sounds as well as thousands of renowned cosplayers and enthusiasts from around the globe! Experience arguably the most anticipated comics event ever! OTAKUs UNITE!”

  1. “The year’s most exciting new ….. is at hand” – The event Facebook page want started in January Yes. However as of today, there are only 65 likes on the page (one of them me & another is us, Cosplay Fun Malaysia). And since I realist (doing my best to an optimist) I’m gonna say that the 65 of us would be the only quantifiable ones who truly know / is excited because we clicked LIKE and want to know all announcements… all news. Since I only saw the advert last week, for the first time…. I personally am not incline to say that it’s ‘this year’s more exciting new event!’ From January – September 2018, I didn’t know it existed.
  2. “A million sights & sounds as well as thousands of renowned cosplayers and enthusiasts from around the globe!” – I’m not so sure what this means or what the writer was trying to say other than it has a lot of adjectives. I don’t know how “a million sights & sounds” links to “thousands of renowned cosplayers & enthusiasts..”. Are they going to post a Guinness World Record of photos & videos of cosplayers from all over the world? Or are they anticipating thousands of cosplayers + enthusiasts from all over the world are going to come? If that’s what they mean, I’m excited and I wanna help promote 🙂
  3. “Experience arguably the most anticipated comics event ever!” – personally, I feel that’s going to be difficult to take this first-time event as ‘most anticipated …event ever’. Also great due to point 1, I just found out about it last year.
  4. OTAKUs UNITE! – I’ve read some comments taking this in a negative light. For me I’m neutral. But the general condenses from the origins, which is Japan, the term has a negative connotation. It’s like calling out NERDS UNITE! Some will be ok and some wouldn’t like this I guess haha. Oh well!

Ada apa dengan gaya in? From what I know, in writing there is a certain margin of flair & exaggeration that can be considered ‘style’. I view this ‘style’ as a marketing style lingo, as these words & visuals will also be used in materials (flyer, posters etc) during presentation to potential sponsors and clients 🙂 So sometimes if the words are not ‘gempak’ enough, it doesn’t excite the client… especially to those who do not know about ACG events.

Bottom line –  I just think the up roar is about poor copyrighting. It was more exaggeration-fantasy than factual-realistic-expectation. I am a realist (trying my best to be an optimist too) but not a language expert. So it’s just what I think… 2 cents 😀

Suggestion – Now I don’t wanna leave this with out a suggestion of a solution 🙂 In my opinion, they should dial back a bit on the adjaectives and announce more objectively 🙂 Alternatively, if they came out with a BIG BANG BANG BANG announcement like Hideo Kojima, Hayao Miyazaki and Yaya Han coming to Malaysia’s ABCDEF Event – BEHOLD! THE YEAR’S MOST EXCITING NEW ANIME, COSPLAY, E-GAMES & TOYS EXTRAVAGANZA IS AT HAND! Experience arguably the most anticipated comics event ever! OTAKUs UNITE! Straight away blow peoples with a BANG, and your tagline + benefit-of-the-doubt = ALL VALID hype hehe Honestly, i think with this kind of announcement, most off the community won’t care what you write xD hahaha Half will be excited and the other half going “Sure or not?”, “Who are these organisers?”, “Sure not scammers?” xD haha

In conclusion, I’m truly excited to hear of yet another ‘big scale’ event! The organisers are of the Star Media Group, they’re legit *thumbs up*. Being ‘legit’ and credible (Star Media Group) and not a brand new company / entity they would have a reputation to keep so all in all… I’m excited & looking forward to it 🙂

gif-website-2With already 2 brand new events this year, TAGCC (Toys Anime Games and Comic Con) and Asia Comic Con (Malaysia), I think this little announcement / surprise will be a nice finale for 2018… the cherry on the sundae… the last Event Of the Year! Singapore has that event called EOY… and ours was CF… until now.

Lots of Love to you all! Be safe and enjoy your events!!

Miku Expo in Malaysia 2017 – Press Launch

A month ago, Comic Fiesta dropped the Earthbound Papas bomb on us and the fans went nuts. Then a MikuPa page was made for Miku Expo in Malaysia 2017… on the same date of 16 December 2017 with no additional information till this date – the date of the press launch!!

It was a busy weekend & week but I managed to get my Magical Mirai Yokohama 2013 ready… and I am all set! So excited!

I already had a few questions on my mind and upon arriving at TGV 1 Utama… a few were already answered. The Q & A session with the media was good as fellow Geek writers The Hyped Geek, started of with the mother of all questions – WHY WAS THIS DATE CHOSEN FOR MIKUEXPOMY? One of the most spicy Q&A sessions at a press conference I have ever attended 😀 On another note… come one the organisers are pros & corporate giants… the questions we’rent spicy enough to say it was spicy!! haha

Anyhow, here are the sights and info gathered, followed by the official press release!

On stage was the 3 most important people of the day! Mr. Kimitaka Nishio, CEO Office Manager of Crypton Future Media, Mr. Henry Tan COO of Astro Holdings Berhad and Mr. Ng Yubin, from the eGG Network, in which I believe with be a driving & promoting force for the pre-concert activities and promotions.

So Nishio-san started off by introducing Hatsune Miku everyone.

Followed by Mr. Henry Tan & Mr. Ng.

Next the opening acts were unveiled, which were chosen by the folks at Astro. They are YouTube Sensation Ms. Chaleeda Gilbert featuring Thai Rapper Dandee and the hottest star in Malaysia Mr. Zizan Razak aka. Abang Long Fadil!

Chaleeda Gilbert, of Thai and British descent, the first international act to be signed to Rocketfuel Entertainment, Malaysia’s #1 Indie Music label. Zizan is no stranger to the average Malaysian. Accomplished comedian, actor, singer, rapper, host, TV personality and a favourite in the hearts of Malaysians.

He will be singing a duet with Miku… for the concert and we’re speculating it’s gonna be a malay song or maybe it would be Zizan’s own single “Chentaku” produced with SonaOne… that will feature Miku!! Who knows at this point 😀 haha

Tickets are priced as follows. The tickets go on sale Sunday, 8 October 2017 at 10am on http://www.myticket.asia

Details on what other pre-concert activities will be announce as time progresses.

Check out our full photo album on Facebook here!

So there you have it:
Hatsune Miku Live in Malaysia 2017

Axiata Arena , Bukit Jalil (formerly Bukit Jalil Indoor Stadium)

I wanted to end with this joke! For all the friends & fans out there who call Miku their WAIFU, take a good look at Nishio-san, because he could be the closest you get to a LEGIT ‘uncle’ in this sense xD haha I had a great time.

Thanks to Astro and Crypton Future Media for having us and for making Miku’s concert in Malaysia a reality! – The Captain –

10 Fun Facts about Hatsune Miku

  1. Hatsune Miku was released on 31 August 2007 and her voice was sampled from Japanese voice actress, Saki Fujita.
  2. Miku’s name comes from putting together the words: First(Hatsu), Sound(Ne), and Future (Miku).
  3. Hatsune Miku isn’t a digital persona for a real singer. She’s actually a synthesised character, called a Vocaloid. Not only is her image on stage generated by computer, but her singing voice is totally synthesised, too.
  4. As her voice can be synthesised, Hatsune Miku sings in multiple languages and has hundreds of thousands of songs available to date!
  5. None of the songs that Hatsune Miku sings and performs actually come straight from Crypton Future Media. Instead, creating her songs is a widespread fan effort, with devotees around the world using her program to write and orchestrate songs for her.
  6. Miku’s outfit design is partly based on a very popular synthesiser keyboard. The colours, and some of the motifs on her clothes are inspired by that instrument.
  7. For a “vocaloid-opera” performance called “The End”, famous Louis Vuitton designer, Marc Jacobs has created a dress specifically for Hatsune Miku.
  8. Hatsune Miku has worked with the biggest acts in the world, from opening for Lady Gaga, to appearing in Pharrell’s music video and singing alongside Japanese artists like Bump of Chicken and Namie Amuro.
  9. Hatsune Miku made television history when she was the very first virtual singer to appear on a major U.S. late night talk show, The Late Show with David Letterman on Oct. 7, 2014, as the musical guest.
  10. There are other characters similar to Hatsune Miku from Crypton Future Media such as Megurine Luka, Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len, KAITO and MEIKO. However, Hatsune Miku remains the most popular in the market and became the world’s first virtual idol.

Aikon Idol Fest – Performers Line Up

Here are the official photos of the performers for this inaugural IDOL event!! We still don’t know the order of the line up or what songs they are going to perform but I guess you would have to buy a ticket to check it out? haha

Well if you still haven’t got your tickets don’t forget to get them from the special Comic Fiesta link for promo prices! Here is the link http://bit.ly/2kx8qyG Currently all the Upper Arena & VIP tickets have been sold out… so only the Normal (Lower Arena) tickets are left 🙂 So if you still want to get tickets… it’s now!!

Some advice for all the performers & would be performers:

  1. On becoming a star – it could happen to anyone, so why not you 🙂
  2. But it’s not going to be easy, it’s hard work & perseverance in your craft
  3. And even if you do become a star, it’s still hard work & perseverance in your craft
  4. Haters will always be there regardless if you’re a star or not.
  5. It’s never a bad thing to be courteous, polite & humble… even when you become a star!

“A life lived in fear, is a life half lived” – Baz Luhrmann, Strictly Ballroom.

So keep doing what you love and keep perspective of your priorities in life!

Captain America Shield Unboxed

Hi everyone,

Just posting a video because I was very excited to unboxing of my Marvel Legends Captain America shield by Hasbro aka ‘The Plastic’ version. This is shield  is 24″ or 60cm in diameter and is made of composite plastic.

As you may know I’ve been a big fan of Captain America since reading the comics in the 80’s. There never has been enough decent collectibles let alone affordable until the emergence of the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Captain America. *tears of joy* Finally they got it right! (mostly there) Compared to the others… the others didn’t exist lah! hehe

I’ve seen those Rubies & Disguise stuff… very affordable. Then I’ve seen the King Arts & custom made shield by TheRPF folks. All were good but of course you get what you pay for. So finally there is a mid range priced shield from the licensee who had the license to create it ALL THIS WHILE (but didn’t) till now. So I’m gonna check it out! Anyhow cheap was not “THAT” cheap any… I needed 2 installments to purchase this!

So here is a short review & comparison to other budget Captain America shields.

Hope you all like it. Thank you. #CaptainAmerica #Hasbro #Unboxing #MarvelLegends

Batman v Superman Run – Malaysia (Race Kit Collection)

Here are the scenes from this past weekend which was the official collection date of the Batman v Superman Run Malaysia it was pretty exciting as I got to see the hype & anticipation for this event when the participants came pouring in over 2 days to pick up their goodies! This is the first official DC Comics run event in the Klang Valley. Last year the folks in Penang got the first with the Justice League Run Penang.

We are expecting about 3,000 – 4,000 runners this Sunday and I think that is certainly an impressive number out. Much love for #TeamBatman and#TeamSuperman…. though secretly the Captain is for #TeamWonderWoman!

All are invited to the festival area which is located at Padang Merbok from 6am – 10am. I expect the merchandise to be on sale there too.

This event is organised by Pink Apple Events.
