Travels of A Captain
Most of you may know that I only travel abroad to 2 events and only events in Singapore. Reasons being:
a) Because I can’t get this kind of event experience (immersive) here in Malaysia.
b) Because I can’t get this kind of event experience – professionally organised & run.
c) Because of financial constraints (coz I have to pay for all my own expenses).
And what events in Singapore might you ask? Singapore, Toys, Games and Comic Convention (STGCC), GameStart Asia and occasionally Anime Festival Asia. It’s very straight forward:
a) STGCC – The current & international comic (not manga) artist guest.
b) GameStart – VIDEO GAMES… the betas, demos, simulators, VR
c) AFA – the one stop Japan Pop Culture Experience.
Fan, Friend, Follower
Now I have been following GameStart since it’s debut in 2014 and there fore it is one of the events that really close to my heart because of it’s content, the organising team and the fact that you grow together with it.
And with that, it brings me great excitement to announce that South East Asia’s PREMIERE Gaming event is back and is extending it’s reach to Indonesia too! GAMER FANS in INDONESIA… HOLLER!! It’s gonna be fun guys. I am so excited for you all!
Last year GameStart started adding an event theme which made evident in their logo style. Last years theme was ‘Cyber Punk’… which I wondered if it had anything to do with the LONG AWAITED movie sequel release – BLADE RUNNER 2049? Apparently its just coincidental hehe Can you all guest what’s this year theme?

KUALA LUMPUR, 20th February 2018 – As the all the Lunar Celebrations….visitations and feasting is starting to subside. I just caught wind that a legit “Comic Con” is gonna make it’s debut in Kuala Lumpur, Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre to be exact, 13 – 15 July 2018. (http://www.asiacomiccon.com/)
Not to be confused with ComicCon Asia (https://comiccon.asia/), the Manila SUPER event that Stan ‘The Man’ Lee is headlining, Asia Comic seems to be hailing from Thailand… which in the past has a been another source for pop culture fans to rejoice – *WINK Thank you* Japan Expo Malaysia 2017 and *WINK Thank You* Japan Expo Thailand 2018 (which featured AKB48… fans went nuts). Despite Thailand having 2 existing ‘Comic Cons’ – Thailand Comic Con and Bangkok Comic Con, only the former has managed to survive since it’s debut in 2014 . Bangkok Comic Con ran from 2015 and stopped at 2016. In 2018… Bangkok Comic Con returns with a twist… they are joining forces with Thailand Comic Con for a mega event on 21 – 23 April!
IRONICALLY Part 2
So despite these 2 existing Comic Cons hailing from Thailand, this Asia Comic Con that’s being held in Bangkok and in KL is NOT organised by the initial two folks haha I mean that’s from what I can gather anyway. Anyone know more?
Which brings me to my first question? So who are these guys? And then my second question – how can I help them? The latter is kinda impossible since I don’t have the answer to the first question haha
Anyhow from what it reads, the event is promising a “WORLD CLASS Comic Con” experience. For my expectations? I am expecting quite a bit!! Haha I am expecting (hoping rather) that missing element that even Singapore’s STGCC doesn’t have – Hollywood Star power guest! This elusive element is really what I think makes a legit “Comic Con”… especially if you are referring to San Diego Comic-Con aka Comic-Con International…. the longest running comic convention in the world.
Can’t Hardly Wait
With the event just 5 months away, I SO looking forward to the guest announcements in the days to come! Fellow friends and fans will be holding on to the dream of a legit Comic Con in Malaysia, REJOICE… and again I say rejoice! And to the organisers, whoever you are – THANK YOU!!

Dear Asia Comic Con organiers – if you’re reading this please reach out to us. We would love to hear from you 🙂 We are fans, we are excited & we want to help. Thank you! 😀 = firstname.lastname@example.org

Malaysian’s largest Anime Comics & Games event RETURNS to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in 2017!! This was among the many worthy headlines for CF2017. However, what I would want like to write about is that Kore Yamazaki sensei (creator The Ancient Magus’ Bride) made an appearance at Comic Fiesta 2017 courtesy of ANIPLUS Asia!!
So firstly, it is a very special (and rare) treat to have the chance to meet a manga creator on your own home country! Our first real opportunity came in 2016 when the Manga Festival (CoFesta) suddenly was announced & Malaysia fans got to the chance to meet / greet / autograph from Ryoko Kui, Kosuke Fujishima, Rino Mizuho and Naoshi Komi. But that was a one-and-done thing as no news of a repeat 2017 event or it’s linked event JPOP Signature which was a part of a bigger event called JAPAN WEEKEND.
I’ve been in the local ACG scene for about 12 years now & it’s already nothing of a surprise with the number of one-and-done events, fake event organisers or events just plainly disappearing off the list the following year. I don’t about the average fan but The Captain is pretty used to it and the words of wisdom are “enjoy it while you can, don’t wait for next year as you don’t know what will happen next year!!”. Case and point is ANIMAX Carnival Malaysia 2017! 😀
So fans of Kore Yamazaki who came for the meet & greet session, WELL DONE because you braved the crowd & the comfort of simply NOT GOING TO CF… to come down to KLCC meet her!! Who knows when you might have this chance again! This video is a salute to you all.
A big thanks to ANIPLUS Asia for bringing her, at no cost to us fans, here in Malaysia!! Here are some other happenings at the ANIPLUS Asia booth at Comic Fiesta 2017!

The local mobile gaming scene just took another step forward with the unveiling of Great Wall iGame Sdn. Bhd. to the public. In short, yes… they will be introducing more games to the Malaysia market… but the more significant portion of their contribution will be their new proprietary integrated e-pay system called UMU Wallet.
Their first game is an straight forwardly called Tembak Ikan! It’s like the 4 player arcade fishing game except instead of throwing a fishing line… you’re just shooting the many varieties of sea creatures with a ‘canon’. It’s like Galaga under the sea! haha
It’s simple and quite addictive. Each shot uses up credits so shoot when it counts. When you start of you have 2 types of guns a ‘canon’ like machine gun that shoot s quite rapidly and the electricity focus gun that can track targets but is less powerful. I’d call it the Ghostbusters gun haha since it was introduced way back in 1984 😀
Anyways, look out for it. It’s available now on Android (Google PLAY) & iOS (App Store).

Here are some basic photos from the brand new Jalan Jalan Japan KL located in 1 Shamelin Mall, Cheras. There was some debate which outlet is bigger so I had to go and check it out.

Size wise, the Subang (One City Sky Park) has a large floor space, more variety per item genre and more quantity for each item genre.
However, JJJKL has the newer stuff or rather more current stuff based on just toy section. The fear of missing out on the unknown might get you thinking you must go both outlets but I think you shouldn’t fear of losing out. How would they decide which stock to send to which outlet? I’m not sure, I just know if one place is sell out more stuff than the other, that’s where I would send the new stock hehe
So I am doing my part to buy more stuff xD So that they might replenish sooner?? haha I hope so.
This outlet is a lot more ogranised than Subang. Must have learnt a lot since it’s opening hehe so it makes shopping pretty swift.
On a down side, I didn’t like the price discrepancy with some of what i bought.
Example: some toys I bought, WERE IN A BOX… it was in a box but it doesn’t mean its unopenend or that it’s in good condition or MINT in box or Brand New in Box.so friends, doesn’t it’s in a box means its MIB! Also if there is the same figure in a plastic bag, then there is another in a box (more expensive), you may want to consider your options & the possiblity
Example: The other example was, I bought an opened figure of Azunyan (in plastic bag) in Subang for RM15 and to get Mio in JJJKL, same series, same size… it was RM30. Please la don’t whack whatever price you want. Other series the figures are same price for the entire figures in the set. Please decide what you with your pricing.
